False
Bay stretches from Cape Point to Cape Hangklip. It's name came about
because early navigators mistook Hangklip for Cape Point. The error
resulted in various shipwrecks along this hazardous shoreline, but today
the shores of False Bay are lined with small coastal towns, and the land
varies from compact suburbia to long stretches of beach.
Some Attractions in False Bay
include: Boulders beach , for
it's plentiful colonies of
jackass penguins. St James; a small beach
lined with brightly colored bathing boxes, reminiscent of the 1920's when
the small sea town was a popular resort. The popular beaches of
Muizenburg and Kalk Bay for
surfers
and
bodyboarders
who flock to ride the
impressive waves
of False Bay, and for local
fishermen
who ply it's
waters. The long stretch of beach at Fish Hoek and Kommetjie draw
plenty of
water sport enthusiasts
and bathers. Simon's Town; a port since
the earliest days of European settlement, is a base of the South African
Navy. Simon's Town 's main road is lined by charming arcade buildings,
which date back to the 19th century.
