Where
there are no footprints, the wind etches the sand in countless
waves.
At the apex of the dunes flourishes a "was-bessie" (Afrikaans =
Wax Berry) used by Settlers to make candle-wax from. In the background the restios
pick up the red of the setting sun.
Both
this picture and the one on the following page were taken on the same day and within about 50 yards of
each other but at different times. These are the small dunes as one approach
Noordhoek Beach walking from the
Beach
House towards the Kakapo shipwreck.
Wildevoelvlie is in the background. These photographs were taken from the
same spot as the pictures of Chapman's Peak below. |
