The shipwreck of the Kakapo, imbedded in Noordhoek Beach for the past 101 years shows the quality of the structure of the ship. The ship had a double metal hull, the two short structures in front is a ladder the rungs of which is still attached and present below the sand! The massive rudder, completely made of steel can be seen in the background. (This is in the foreground of the picture in the previous page, taken towards Chapman's Peak).

There were 4 pairs of Oystercatchers that I could easily see breeding on the flat section of the dune between the Kakapo and the bush in the background. The Oystercatcher and Kakapo Parrot pages are not part of this Tour, click on the images below if you want to visit them now.
