The Karbongkel Berge ('berge'=mountain) and the Sentinel makes up the right edge of the mountain range behind her. The white area at the base of the mountain is Hout Bay harbor. Sunset reef, totally flat at the time the picture was taken, is behind the kelp bed immediately behind and to the left of Gerda.
Today the area behind her is filled with fynbos, as you can see from the picture below, taken December 2004!
