Details
of the composite inflorescence of
the
Purple
Sea
Pink
(Limonuim
scabrum). Sunset Beach House. September 2000.

|
Limonuim
carries flowers year round but peaks in
summer
(October
to
May). Theses flowers dry out beautifully
and keep their colors (blue, purple, white and pink) for months. They are
popular with flower vendors both freshly cut and dried. The plant also has
a large flat green leaves which is unusual for
fynbos,
they
are
however
predictably
rough
to
the
touch
. |
|
|
|
Fynbos plants
are readily recognized by the sclerophyllous (hard, tough and leathery
leaved) and microphyllous (small leaved) nature of almost all woody plants.
Although the statis flower and plants look 'soft' they are indeed hard, though
and leathery. They have to be to survive on the dunes in the
Cape of Storms! |
