Other than the enclosed area next to the pool only endemic species (that
is naturally occur in the Cape Floral Kingdom only) have been planted in
the garden.
The picture above was been taken from the dining room, hence the reflection
from the glass over
Chapman's
Peak.
This picture was taken in December 1998. The garden has evolved
considerably since then!
In keeping with the miracle of fynbos my aim is to diversify the garden. The
systematic cutting back of the thriving primary vegetation by natural
processes and the judicious use of the pruning scissors leads the way for
an ever increasing array of long term species.
Living
on the Beach, the salt-laden North-West is an interesting force that
shapes the garden with the same un-concerning attitude as the waves that
shape the shore and all else in its way.
The
diversity of fynbos, like the skills of the experienced surfer, allows the
garden to thrive with the necessary adaptations and successions.
As
always, growth does bear some pain.
Life only achieves its brilliance because to live is to have a little bit
of death too. That to grow is to die, is inherent in life itself. This is good. |
